R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (R-ALA/R-isomer) is the biologically active form of alpha-lipoic acid and has powerful antioxidant activity. (Regular Alpha Lipoic Acid contains a mixture of both isomers of ALA and is only 50% biologically active.) ALA is required by mitochondria, the energy-producing structures in cells to produce energy in the human body.
